Traditional Birth Doula Support

Why Choose a Doula?

  • To have someone who is focused entirely on your emotional and physical needs during labor.

  • To ensure continuous care throughout the process, even when your medical team rotates or your partner needs a break.

  • To receive personalized techniques for comfort and coping during labor.

  • To feel empowered and informed about your choices in a calm, supportive environment.

Goals of Traditional Birth Doula Support

A birth doula provides non-clinical, continuous support to mothers during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.

What is a Doula?

Continuous Support

Doulas stay with mothers throughout the entire process, unlike OBs or nurses who may come and go based on medical tasks or shift schedules.

Non-Clinical Focus

Unlike OBs and nurses, doulas don’t handle medical tasks but instead focus on the mother’s emotional well-being, comfort, and advocacy.

Physical Techniques

Doulas are trained in hands-on techniques like counterpressure, massage, and position changes that partners may not know.

Informed Decision-Making

Doulas provide evidence-based information in the moment, helping mothers understand their options and advocate for themselves.

Emotional Bonding with Partner

Unlike a doula, a partner has an intimate emotional connection, but a doula can help the partner feel confident and guide them in supporting the laboring mother.
